Every Nonfiction Author Needs a Great Editor. You’ve Found Yours.

Refine your book manuscript, unlock its potential, and get ready to publish.

Trusted by these and other publishers (and dozens of self-published authors)

You’ve been writing a nonfiction book to share your expertise and you want it to be read. You want to get it published.

You want your book to be legitimately good.

Effectively organized.

Engaging. Effective. Memorable.

Clear, concise, and consistent.

You’ve already gotten some feedback. But not from a nonfiction book editor who understands what makes a great book. (Let’s face it: That “friend who was an English major” doesn’t count.)

You’ve been at this a while. You’re too close to it to know what you don’t know.

And you certainly don’t have the time, know-how, or patience to sift through the 1,200-page Chicago Manual of Style (the new one), and apply all the “rules” and publishing industry standards.

No matter which of the levels of nonfiction editing you need . . .

Whether you need to (1) fine-tune and clean up the text; (2) ensure that your writing sings and keeps your readers’ interest; (3) refine your message and focus; or (4) get big-picture assistance with the structure and elements of the book—or some combination of the above . . .

Whether you plan to self-publish or traditionally publish . . .

It’s time to hire an experienced and encouraging nonfiction book editor.

Let’s transform your draft into a compelling, ready-to-publish manuscript that informs, inspires, and engages readers.

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣Initial Contact/Consultation: Share details about your book, goals, and timeline, along with a confidential manuscript sample. We’ll assess if we’re a fit.

2️⃣Discuss details and deliverables: We define the project and what’s included, typically on a call and/or by email.

3️⃣Proposal and payment: You get a quote, a contract, and invoice (payable by credit card) to confirm the agreement.

4️⃣Files and feedback: You send me a Word document (.docx). I edit it with Track Changes and Comments, returning the file within 2–6 weeks—with an editorial letter and supplementary materials.* I’ll check in along the way.

*Some projects may involve two rounds of editing. Copy editing includes a “style sheet” summarizing changes made and standards applied.

5️⃣Final revisions. You review the comments, approve the suggested edits, and make final revisions to the file I sent you. Prepare a beautiful publication-ready manuscript.

6️⃣Get it published! Move forward in the publishing process (with additional coaching sessions, services, or online courses as needed), and keep me updated!

Dan Tortora is simply the best. Just hire him. . . .

Brilliant. Wise. Deep. Smart. Knowledgeable. Dependable. And a joy to spend time with.

He worked with me through two award-winning books that I could never have finished without him. When I’m ready for the next one, he’s my first call. . . .

I’ve been a writer for 35 years. . . . He is by far the best editor I’ve ever come across to work with me. You’ll find the same.
